QUALIFICATION:
3 years apprenticeship

Despite the use of modern machinery, a great deal of manual labour is still required.
The scope of work of sheet metal workers is increasingly shifting from new manufacturing to assembly, maintenance and repair activities, since in most areas (e.g. car sheet metal work, roof and facade construction) prefabricated individual parts (e.g. body parts, gutters, pipes) are largely used.

Specialization areas:
Construction Sheet Metal Work
* Manufacturing, layering and installing roof flashings, gutters, downpipes etc.
* Using crimping machines to tack the appropriately prepared sheet metal parts together and folding the sheets together
* Performing maintenance and repair work
Ventilation Sheet Metal Work
* Manufacturing air conditioning and ventilation systems
* Primarily producing sheet metal parts for air transport ducts and performing assembly and repair work
Automotive Sheet Metal Work
* Repairing car body parts, installing new ones and treating the surfaces of replaced body parts
Artistic Sheet Metal Work
* Manufacturing every-day and decorative items (e.g., water jugs, kettles, tubs, weathercocks, decorative cornices, domed roofs)
* Installing decorative items and edging on roofs and facades

Completed apprenticeship as Sheet Metal Worker / Bodywork Mechanic / Blacksmith (or comparable qualification)

ACTIVITIES: 
* Removal and reassembly of sheet metal, trim panels, and body parts
* Brushing, smoothing, straightening, and pressing sheet metal according to technical specifications
* Performing corrosion protection work, preparing surfaces for painting, and applying body filler
* Checking fit, dimensional accuracy, and spacing, and performing rework
* Working with tools such as rollers, width cutters, chisels, hammers, and sheet metal working machines
* Collaboration with the paint shop and assembly team to ensure timely order completion
* Documentation of work processes and quality control
